Join Sally Carson, Director of the NZ Marine Studies Centre and learn how to use a range of citizen science tools, including Marine metre2, to monitor and explore the diverse coastal environments of Tipaka Moana/Hauraki Gulf.
During the workshop, particpants will:
- Observe and record environmental indicators using your senses and scientific tools
- Record diversity and abundance of coastal species
Workshop Programme:
10:00: Welcome and Introduction to the Hauraki Gulf Monitoring Programme and Yachting NZ’s RŪNĀ programme.
11:00: Exploration of planktonic and subtidal communities
12:30: Lunch (BYO, morning tea and afternoon tea provided)
13:00: Methods to monitor and record environmental conditions
15:00: Seashore monitoring with Marine Metre2
16:30: Review of the data collected and next steps
We encourage participants to attend the full programme, but there is option to just attend part of the day.
