Marine metre2 - Teacher Workshop in Gisborne

An afternoon on the shore to learn the Marine metre2 survey methods, followed by an exploration of the website and teaching resources.

Dive into marine science with a hands-on workshop! Join crew members from Tairāwhiti Waka and science educators from the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre for an afternoon learning to use surveymethods from Marine Metre2, a fun and accessible way to explore your local shore with students of all ages.

Thursday 6th November, 1:30-5 pm

Gisborne Yacht Club, Kaiti Beach Road, Kaiti

1:30–3:30pm — Get your feet wet

  • Hands-on experience with survey methods at Onepoto Rocks, Kaiti Beach. Explore the intertidal zone and learn how to collect real marine data.

3:30–5:00pm — From Shore to Screen

  • Head back to the yacht club for a session on website entry, data analysis, and teacher resources. Plus, a chance to share ideas, discuss classroom applications and hear how Tairāwhiti Waka Voyaging Trust and the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre can support your teaching.

Teachers can join later if unable to make it for 1:30pm. Please register interest here. Suitable for primary and secondary teachers, environmental educators and anyone with an interest in caring for the marine environment.
